This week, we’re turning authority figures into animals. No, it’s not an amusing party trick, it’s another of the Greatest Cheats In Gaming.
In the ranking of most hated profession, sports referee is clearly up there alongside parking attendant and lawyer. They’re just trying to do their job, but a bad decision, or rather a decision that isn’t agreed on by spectators, can subject them to absolutely horrendous abuse.
But there is one videogame where referees are subjected to some of the worst treatment ever experienced. It’s one thing to treat a person like a dog, but to turn them into a dog – That’s pretty harsh.
International Superstar Soccer Deluxe on the Super Nintendo is that game, a Konami-developed precursor to the popular Pro Evolution Soccer series of football games. Yes, I said football, deal with it. Being a Konami game, it does indeed contain the Konami code that I’ve previously covered in this series, and will no doubt cover again, only this time there’s a small hurdle in entering the code.
First off, you’ll need to plug a controller into the second port on your Super Nintendo.
On the title screen, enter this familiar code:
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A and Start
You’ll hear a dog bark to indicate successful completion of the code.
Now play the game in any mode, and after the coin flip and start of the match, you’ll notice that all of the dogs have been turned into canines. Be warned though, even in this state they’ll still be alert and able to do their job, even handing out yellow and red cards when necessary.
