I’ve been thinking a lot about finishing moves recently and thought it would be fun to document all of the Mortal Kombat Fatalities (and the versions on home consoles), so welcome to a little experiment I’m calling “Finisher Friday”!
If you guys like it, I’d like to curate finishing moves from pretty much every game that has them – In the best video quality possible (and using original hardware, except for arcade versions).
So, for this maiden voyage, I thought I’d go back to where it all began; the original Mortal Kombat Fatalities. The original classic was infamous for its gory, bloody content and I don’t think the creators were prepared for the outcry and impact that this humble arcade cabinet would have on both gaming and pop culture.
Enjoy all of these deadly finishing moves in 1440p resolution. If you’d like to see more of these types of videos, please do let me know as it would be great to do more of these. How about some for other series like Killer Instinct?
Mortal Kombat Fatalities List
Scorpion – Breath of Fire
Behold the masked yellow ninja’s true visage as he scorches his foe with a deadly breath of fire – TOASTY!
Method: Hold BL, Up, Up (1/2 screen away)
Sub-Zero – Head Rip
This cold-hearted killer is so strong, he can separate a head from a body and make it look so easy – Wait, is that a spine?
Method: F, D, F, HP (close to opponent)
Sonya Blade – Kiss of Death
Another way to singe an opponent to a crisps, Sonya uses her alluring charm and puckers up for the deadliest form of Public Show of Affection you’ve ever seen.
Method: F, F, B, B, BL (Anywhere)
Kano – Heart Removal
Probably the grossest of the Mortal Kombat Fatalities, wherein this deadly mercenary performs some bare-handed open heart surgery.
Method: B, D, F, LP (close to opponent)
Liu Kang – Somersault Uppercut
The most boring MK1 move in the entire game. Just a few kicks to the face, followed by an uppercut. Unless you’re performing this move in The Pit (where it will knock your opponent off the bridge), it’s a bit rubbish.
Method: Hold BL, F, D, B, Up, F (basically rotate the stick)
Johnny Cage – Uppercut Decapitation
Ripping a head off is pretty impressive – But punching a head off? That’s real strength.
Method: F, F, F, HP (close to opponent)
Raiden – Electrocution
With Raiden’s ability to direct lightning, he must have really low energy bills.
Method: F, B, B, B, HP (Anywhere)
